Lately, our days are looking much different than how they looked months ago. While in past months you may have gone to work, took your kids to soccer practice and met up with a friend for dinner, now working remote and social distancing is the norm. Unfortunately, transitioning so quickly from normal life to quarantine doesn’t come without side effects. But we’re here to help. Find tips for keeping a strong mental health during quarantine.

5 Tips for Mental Health During Quarantine

  1. Maintain a routine: In a time where it’s possible to wakeup 5 minutes before the workday starts and still be on time for work, it can be tough to keep a morning routine. Every morning, continue to wake up at the time you would before you were commuting to work. Once you’re awake, consider going for a run, taking your dog for a walk or simply journaling. This will help to wake you up and put your best foot forward towards having a great and positive day.
  2. Take care of yourself: During a time like this, it can be very tempting to stay up late watching TV shows and snack on junk food. But it’s very important to still take care of ourselves, which starts with getting enough sleep and a proper diet. If you’re able to, consider also stretching or doing an indoor workout class a couple times a week.
  3. Reach out to family and friends: The past few months hasn’t been easy for anyone. Let’s stick together by reaching out to family members and friends over video calls, texts and phone calls! A quick call with a friend or family member you miss can do wonders to pick up the mood.
  4. Change your environment: If you work in the same room you eat dinner and watch TV, the day can start to feel very mundane. Instead, designate different rooms for different activities. To help with this, set up a desk in the spare bedroom for work or school. Dictating a certain area for work will also help with productivity.
  5. Focus on the good: At a time like this, it’s important to keep in mind why we’re social distancing. Stay informed, but don’t obsess over the news. Instead, focus on the positive stories about how doctors, nurses, first responders and more are helping us during this time.
