How to Safely Visit Your Family During the Holidays in 2020
Traditional holiday gatherings with family and friends are something we anticipate all year. But traveling around the holidays or partaking in traditional gatherings can increase your chances of getting or spreading COVID-19.

While your typical traditions might have to wait until next year, there are still safer ways you can make the most of this season with your family during the holidays in 2020. For a full list of suggestions for holiday gatherings review CDC guidelines.

How to Stay Connected with Your Loved Ones This Holiday Season

Most families are busy trying to make this holiday season feel as normal as possible. Buying gifts, making cookies, putting up trees and decorating their homes as they would any other year, but there’s one thing that has to be different – holiday gatherings. While there is no doubt that holidays in 2020 are going to look a little different, you may be wondering how to stay connected during COVID-19. Here are some safer ways you can celebrate with your loved ones this year:

  1. Virtual Gatherings – One of the most popular options is having a virtual holiday meal. You can use iPads or laptops to virtually gather together, eat a warm meal and share quality time together. You can still set the table and cook your traditional holiday meals; you’ll just all be gathering in your respective homes. There are several video platforms that support this kind of gathering, including Zoom, Skype and Google Hangouts.
  2. Eat Outside if Possible – In December it might seem a little odd to have holiday festivities outside, but there are some ways to make it work. Investing in heat lamps, renting a screened tent or using an outdoor fire pit are creative ways to make things warm while you catch up with friends and family. The gathering might be shorter than normal, but it’s one way for you to exchange gifts in person and make the most of the holiday season.
  3. Find Other Ways to Feel Connected – Is there a holiday recipe you make every year as a family? Do you like to try new recipes together? Consider creating a recipe exchange or get on a virtual chat platform and all bake together like you would in person. Consider making handmade holiday cards this year to share with loved ones or write personalized letters.
