Business Travel Tips: How to be Productive in a Hotel Room

How To | March 30, 2018

There’s nothing easy about business travel. Between packing for your trip, catching the flight, finding the location you’re required to be at and staying in a hotel, the whole process can be exhausting! On top of that, even when you’re away from the office, you’re expected to be able to get your usual work done. Stay on top of your work by trying out these hotel productivity tips!

How to be Productive in a Hotel When You Travel for Business

When you think of business travel, what comes to mind? Likely, meetings, awkward time breaks and exhaustion due to sleeping in an unfamiliar place and keeping to the flight schedule. And unfortunately, by the time your schedule clears and you get back to your hotel room, you likely still have other regular work to do. Sigh.

Well, when you follow a few easy steps, being productive in a hotel room isn’t so hard. Try out these tips to maximize your productivity in the hotel room!

  1. Check the Connection: While not getting bombarded with emails and notifications from clients or coworkers may seem tempting, you most likely will not be able to get much done with slow or lagging internet. Before settling down for a remote meeting or to get some side work done, make sure your internet connection is strong enough to support your work.
  2. Pack Healthy Snacks: It can be hard to find healthy snacks when you’re on the go. Instead of ordering unhealthy room service meals, pack some healthy snacks for you to enjoy between meetings or in your hotel room. Some ideas for these snacks may be granola bars, fruit or crackers.
  3. Minimize Distractions: As tempting as it may be to keep the TV on as background noise in your hotel room, you’d be surprised by just how distracting it can be. If you’ll be working from your hotel during regular business hours, notify the front desk and ask them to keep the cleaning service out.
  4. Take Breaks: When you’re stressed, it can be tempting to bury yourself in your work. This isn’t always a good idea and can actually lead to you being less productive over time. Allow yourself to take some breaks. Hit up the hotel gym, walk up and down the hallways or explore the city to recharge before going back to work.
