Things To Do

Happy New Year! Did you make your New Year’s Resolutions? This tradition dates back thousands of years to the ancient Babylonians . The Babylonians celebrated the spring and autumn equinoxes by creating promises to earn the favor of the gods. In 46 B.C., the Romans, who then ruled a good portion of the western world, introduced the Julian calendar, which broke the year into its current twelve months.  January 1st was created as the first day of the New Year with the month named after the Roman god, Janus. The Romans declared that this would be a day of new beginnings. Today, people make resolutions just before the New Year rings to change bad habits or create new goals to start off the year positively. Most resolutions include losing weight, eating better, stopping bad habits, exercising more, saving more money or just getting organized. Resolutions are pretty easy to make.  Keeping resolutions can be quite another matter! According to one study by www.statisticbrain.com , 45% of Americans make New Year’s Resolutions; 75% of those keep their resolutions through the first week, 71% keep their resolutions for two weeks and only 46% keep their resolutions through 6 months! The best way to keep your New Year’s resolutions is to write them down and post them in a prevalent place, such as the refrigerator. Create manageable goals for your resolutions. If you surpass a goal, then celebrate and move on to the next goal. Also, keep friends and family members informed of your resolutions. They can help you with monitoring your goals and keeping you on track. If one of your resolutions is to be more organized, then you’ll need to create goals, projects, and plans and make it achievable. Break down the larger projects into smaller projects that are easier to accomplish. Visit home improvement shows to get great storage, organization and home project tips and ideas.
