It is time once again to ring in the New Year! There are many great ways celebrate New Year’s Eve 2016 in the Baltimore and Northern Virginia areas. Washington D.C. doesn’t have any specific large New Year’s events, but there are many hotel parties and restaurant packages that are available to be booked throughout the city.

New Year’s Eve Celebrations in Maryland and Northern Virginia

Many cities in Maryland and Northern Virginia have events and fireworks to observe the New Year.  The museums in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor also have special daytime ball drops so young children can experience counting down to the New Year. Find out about a few of the family friendly events taking place on December 31st below:

First Night Celebrations in Maryland and Northern Virginia

A few towns in the area offer First Night Celebrations on New Year’s Eve. These events involve the entire community, retail shops and have hundreds of volunteers. Some Maryland and Northern Virginia cities are hosting “First Night” events that allow the young and old to celebrate ringing in the New Year at an earlier time in the evening and then later at midnight for the mature participants. Alexandria, Virginia will have the First Night New Year’s Eve party in Old Town. There will be many family-friendly events and performances taking place throughout the day followed by a fireworks display at midnight to welcome 2016. Annapolis, Maryland hosts New Year’s Annapolis, a family-oriented New Year’s celebration with crafts, entertainment and two fireworks displays: one at 7:30 pm and then one at the traditional stroke of midnight. The events kick off at 3 pm and runs to midnight.

Family Friendly New Year’s Eve Celebrations in Baltimore

In Baltimore, two museums at the Inner Harbor offer daytime New Year’s Eve events for all ages on December 31st. Port Discovery Children’s Museum has “Noontime” New Year’s Celebration with live interactive performances, family activities, crafts, and a ball drop at noon. The Maryland Science Center has a day-long program called “Midnight Noon”. Children can take part in arts and crafts activities, including decorating and making their own party hats and noisemakers. Popular kid’s band, Milkshake will lead the festivities and host the ball drop at noon.

Baltimore’s New Year’s Eve 2016

The biggest New Year’s event in the area is the New Year’s Spectacular at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. There will be live music and entertainment at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater starting at 9 pm. 2016 will be welcomed in with a huge fireworks display and light show choreographed to music. The fireworks, which are the largest in the region, are launched from barges located in the harbor and can be seen from downtown Baltimore attractions, hotels, restaurants and residences including Fells Point, Harbor East and Federal Hill.
