From Friday, January 12th through Monday, January 15th, events will be taking place throughout Washington, D.C. in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. These events will include speeches, parades, concerts and other various events.
Saturday, January 13th
The Martin Luther King, Jr celebration weekend will kick off January 13th at 8:00 pm with the KanKouran West African Dance Company. The KanKouran West African Dance Company was founded in 1983 and performs annually at the Martin Luther King celebration. Tickets for this event will cost between 15 and 30 dollars.
Sunday, January 14th
At 2:00 pm, William Rhoden, an author and former New York Times sports journalist, will discuss how professional athletes and those in the sports world are helping to fight social injustice. Tickets will cost between 10 and 20 dollars. At 6:00 pm, the Howard Gospel Choir of Howard University will be performing a musical celebration honoring the life of Dr. King. This event will be called Let Freedom Sing and take place at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets will cost between 5 and 15 dollars.
Monday, January 15th
At 6:00 pm, the Grammy® and Tony® nominated songstress, Vanessa Williams and the Let Freedom Ring choir will be performing a musical tribute to Martin Luther King. This event is free. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis up to 2 per person in line.
At 10:00 am, the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Peace Walk will commence. This event is coordinated annually by the Coalition for Peace. The two-mile long walk will start at 2500 MLK Ave SE and end at the Barry Farm Recreation Center.
At noon, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade will take place. This event will begin at Good Hope Road near the Anacostia Park entrance and continue along MLK Avenue to the Barry Farm Recreation Center. The Martin Luther King, Jr. parade is a symbol of continuing Dr. King’s work.
On Martin Luther King Day from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum will be hosting an MLK Day Celebration. This celebration will include live performances, films, crafts, and community discussion. The event will also have a musical concert, “Man of Peace: The 50th Anniversary of the Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.”, which includes texts from Martin Luther King, Jr. The event will cost 5 dollars.

Will hold contents of a 4 to 5 bedroom house with major appliances and room for boxes. Business storage for files, equipment and permanent records.
