Did you tell yourself last year that this year will be the year you change jobs? While job hunting during a global pandemic is different from a traditional experience, it’s nowhere near impossible. People are spending more time at home than ever before, which may give you some extra time to dedicate to your job search. Interested in learning tips for finding a job during the coronavirus? Read below!

Job Hunting During COVID-19? Try Out These Tips!

  • Be patient: When searching for a job during the coronavirus, it’s important to set realistic expectations. While many companies are still hiring, the hiring process is taking longer than in past years. As you’re applying for jobs, if it takes you a while to hear back from a company be patient.
  • Reflect: Since jobs aren’t hiring as quickly, you have extra time to think about what you want from the position. Consider where you want to work, what you liked about your past position and what you’d change for your next position.
  • Network: Thanks to technology, networking isn’t only done person to person nowadays. During this time, it’s a good idea to reach out to your connections and ask them if they have any job leads. Many companies take candidate referrals from current employees more seriously than traditional job posting applicants.
  • Revamp your resume: As with any job search, it’s important that you take the time to update your resume. Add any relevant skills, work experience, credentials and more. It’s also important to put together a good cover letter. Your cover letter should contain additional information that will make your reader want to read your resume.
  • Consider remote positions: No one knows how long the coronavirus will last, and it isn’t a bad idea to consider a remote position. With a remote position, if another stay at home order is put into place, it won’t impact your day to day life at your new position.
  • Improve your skills: One thing that’s unique about this time period is that a lot of people have more free time. If a position requires knowledge or training that you don’t currently possess, consider adding them to your skillset. Ensuring your skillset lines up with the position requirements will help you to get hired easier and much quicker.
