How to Organize Crafting Supplies
Crafting is not just a hobby, it’s a way of life. Crafting can be a creative, chaotic and very messy lifestyle. You acquire new craft supplies on a regular basis and may not even have a plan on how to use them when you buy them. The key is to get your craft supplies organized. Especially if you’re confined to a small space to store your craft supplies. With just a few thoughtful investments, you can find storage options to help provide you with the organization you need to focus on what is most important, your crafts.

How to Keep Crafts Organized

Here are some ideas for how to organize crafting supplies in a small space:

  1. Invest in a Storage Cart – Use each drawer to hold your most often used craft items (and label them of course) leaving one drawer empty to store whatever project you’re currently working on. Roll it back into a closet when not in use.
  2. Find Storage that Has Multiple Uses – Find a craft table or desk that has storage built in or choose a craft cart that has a table on top. Every piece of furniture in your craft space should serve more than one function.
  3. Repurpose Clear Jars – Jars are an excellent option for any size craft space. You can fill them, stack them and store them easily. Plus, you can see your supplies at a glance for easy access.
  4. Invest in Pegboard – Pegboard is perfect for an empty wall. Install hooks and use it to store some of your colorful or most useful supplies.
  5. Add a Chalkboard Wall – Inspiration is key when it comes to crafting and by utilizing a chalkboard wall you can sketch out ideas without needing to use any counter space.
  6. Maximize Closet Storage – Adding shelving to a closet can take it from useless to completely functional. Add bars to hold ribbon and paper rolls, shelving for fabrics and drawers to house things that you don’t use as often.
  7. Take Advantage of Door Space – Pantry organizers aren’t just made for the kitchen. Hang one behind your closet door to hold ribbon, wrapping paper, bags and tags.
  8. Hang a Rod – Hang a plain metal rod above a desk or on an unused wall and attach clips to hold markers, paint brushes, pens or other supplies in small buckets.
  9. Use Binders – If you are a paper crafter, you probably have a large amount of paper, scraps and embellishments. Use a binder to store and organize paper items by color or season.
  10. Add Shelving – Shelving is a decorative and useful way to store craft supplies. Add baskets or bins and label all of your items so they are easily accessible when you need to use them.
