The Tidy Life
August 15, 2013|
It’s nearing the end of the summer, which means that it is time to head back to school, change out the summer items for fall items and head to the Maryland State Fair! The 135th year for the fair starts August 23rd and runs through September 2nd at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland. There is a special dollar preview evening , sponsored by M & T Bank, on August 22nd from 5-9pm where admission is just $1.00 and each ride is only $1.00. The Maryland State Fair has been on the same site since 1879, where it started as the Lutherville Fair. In 1906, the fair merged with the Pimlico Fair to become the Maryland State Fair. The fair has been held every year since, except during World War II (1943-1945)-when the fairground was used as storage and vehicle repair for the United States Army. The fair started again in 1946 and has been growing ever since. What started off as a 37 acre fairground over 100 years ago is now 100 acres. The fair originally ran for 10 days, but because of the popularity of events, it has been expanded to 11 days. The fair is open 10am to 10pm during that time. The fair hosts 4-H agricultural competitions and is famous for its thoroughbred horse racing events. There are also garden shows, horse and livestock shows, lots of food vendors, crafts, other vendors and entertainment. This year, the festival will have three pop/rock concerts , the first is on August 25th with Carly Ray Jepsen and The Wanted, then on August 26th Fall Out Boy will perform and on September 1st Three Days Grace will headline. There are also many local entertainers that will be performing throughout the 11 days of the fair. You can also keep up-to-date on the events via the Maryland State Fair Facebook page . ezStorage is an official sponsor of the Maryland State Fair for the 3rd year.
