Feng Shui Basics

  1. Look at Your Home as a Whole: When starting a feng shui project, identify the areas that need the most work and make those areas a top priority. Many newcomers to feng shui will make the mistake of starting on the room or area that can be changed the easiest instead of the areas that need the most work. This is a mistake, because ignoring the rooms that need work will result in the energy from those rooms spreading into the whole house.
  2. Declutter Your Home: When making your home more feng shui, the first thing you should do is declutter your home. Studies have shown that too much clutter in your home can increase stress and decrease your ability to focus or process information.
  3. Get Adequate Fresh Air and Natural Light: Fresh air and natural lighting are necessary for having good Chi in your home. Open your blinds and windows often, and consider using feng shui purifying plants or an air purifier in your home.

How to Get a Feng Shui Bedroom

Feng shui teaches that it is hard to relax when you have too much active energy around you. Instead of having an alarm clock with a cord, use a battery operated one. Additionally, do not keep your phones in your bedroom and keep all laptops and computers far from the bed. If you require lighting for reading, get soft lamps for your nightstands. And maybe the hardest rule to follow, do not store items under your bed. Storing items under your bed will prevent the good energy from circulating throughout your room while you sleep.

How to Make Your Living Room Feng Shui

When using the art of feng shui to decorate your living room, focus on fresh air and natural lighting. If your living room does not have many windows, use mirrors and shiny surfaces to create a look of more natural lighting. To keep the air quality pure and fresh, open windows whenever possible and use aromatherapy diffusers.

Decluttering Your Home to be More Feng Shui

Unfortunately, the average home doesn’t have enough storage space to make a home align with the guidelines of feng shui. If you need more storage space in your home, consider renting a storage unit. ezStorage has storage facilities throughout Maryland and Virginia with traditional storage units, temperature controlled storage units and vehicle storage units.
