The 2016 Washington Auto Show will take place January 26th to January 31st at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The Convention Center is easily reachable via Metro. The massive winter storm that hit the Washington D.C. and Baltimore areas has delayed the opening of the Washington Auto Show from January 22nd until Tuesday, January 26th at noon.

There will be over 700 vehicles on display from 42 manufacturers at the Washington D.C. Auto Show. Show visitors can see the latest in production, concept, luxury, electric, hybrid, and historic cars in over 750,000 square feet of convention space. The Washington Auto Show has been voted one of the top five auto shows by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers. It is the largest public trade show in Washington D.C.

D.C. Auto Show Special Events

The D.C. Auto Show features a variety of events for the entire family from celebrity visits to entertainment to ride and drive trials sponsored by various car manufacturers. The show also has a Family Fun Zone for families and a beer garden, presented by Sam Adams for those who are at least 21 years old.

Ride and Drive at the DC Car Show

Major manufacturers will have daily Ride and Drive courses, so consumers can test drive selected vehicles. The car makers participating include Ford, Kia, Mazda and Toyota. All Ride and Drive events will operate unless the crew manager deems it unsafe due to inclement weather or other conditions.

Additionally, there will be special exhibits and entertainment highlighting the education and outreach of military special services by the American Red Cross. Army National Guard Specialist, Alek Skarlatos, one of the three young men who helped to prevent a potential massacre aboard a Belgian train this past summer, will have a meet-and-greet from 6 to 8 pm.

”Art of Motion”

Stop by the “Art of Motion” area of the D.C. Auto show for a unique visual art, fashion and auto exhibition. The exhibit includes specially commissioned cars placed in front of a 6,000 square foot exhibit of graphic backgrounds. The graphics will include specially designed custom bikes, fashion, autos and murals created by illustrator, Demont Pinder, Ed the Artist and Jamaal Lamaaj.

”Hand-On” a Hyundai Contest

The Hyundai “Hands-On” contest is a fan favorite and has been a part of the Washington Auto Show since 1999. Contestants must stay in nearly constant physical contact with a Hyundai Tucson, this year’s special prize, for a period of several days to compete for a chance to drive home the car. Eight to ten contest finalist are randomly placed at spots on the vehicles by the event judges. Then the contestants must have continuous contact with the vehicle (unless there is a sanctioned 15 minute break) or they will be disqualified. At the end of the contest, those that are left will get to choose a key to the car. Whoever has the key to turn the engine on wins the car. The contest starts Tuesday, January 26th and runs to Sunday, January 31st.
