Easter Events in Baltimore
There are quite a few family friendly Easter events in the Baltimore area taking place this weekend. Every spring for the last 19 years, Butler’s Orchard in Germantown, Maryland has held “Bunnyland”, a spring festival with hayrides, egg hunts, pony rides, face painting, food, and baby animals. The festival opens April 3rd and 4th and then is open April 6th 10th, 11th and 12th. Meadowside Nature Center in Rock Creek Regional Park hosts their Annual Egg Hunt on Friday, April 3rd from 10am to 2pm. The Maryland Zoo at Druid Park hosts the Mary Sue Candies Bunny Bonazoo on April 3rd to 5th. This family fun event has games, crafts, free Easter egg hunts, live entertainment and of course, the zoo animals. There are also many restaurants offering Easter brunches in the Baltimore area.
Easter Events in Washington D.C.
Washington D.C. plays host to many Easter events every year. There will be Easter Egg Rolls and Egg Hunts at Madame Tussaud’s on April 4th and an Eggstravangza at Tudor Place on 31st Street NW on April 3rd and 4th. The museums along the National Mall are all open on Easter as is Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens, the National Zoo and The National Archives. There are two major sunrise services that take place at famous landmarks in Washington D.C. on Easter morning. Thousands of people gather at the Lincoln memorial for an inspirational sunrise service starting at 6:30am. The annual Easter Sunrise Service at Arlington Cemetery will take place starting at 6:15am at the Memorial Amphitheater. The non-denominational service includes the United States Army Band and sermon by U.S. Air Force Chaplain, Major General Howard Stendahl. The two major Easter events in Washington DC actually take place on the day after Easter: The White House Egg Roll and the African American Family Celebration at the National Zoo. The National Zoo will host the Annual African American Family Celebration and Easter Monday Event on Monday, April 6th from 10am to 4pm. The programming for the day includes African storytelling, gospel choirs, reggae bands and more. There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt, crafts, games, a visit with the Easter bunny and animal demonstrations throughout the day. The White House Egg Roll is held every Easter Monday. This is the 137th year for the event, which is the longest running held annual presidential tradition. The first family hosts the White House Easter Egg Roll with celebrity and performers as special guests. Over 35,000 people are expected to gather on the South Lawn of the White House for this year’s Easter games. The theme of this year’s egg roll is “#GimmeFive”. There will be special music performances, celebrities, storytelling, sports and fitness zones, cooking demonstrations, performances and the traditional egg hunt and egg roll. Tickets for the White House Egg Roll are free of charge and distributed via an online lottery. There will be a variety of celebrity chefs, athletes, performers, dancers and Sesame Street on hand to provide entertainment and get everyone moving and eating right!
