The coronavirus has altered the way we do a variety of things including the way we date. Now more than ever, dating has become a way for people to interact with one another and to engage in social activity. You may be asking yourself if it’s a good idea to continue to go on dates and how you can safely meet new people.
Here are some tips to help you enjoy a safer dating experience during COVID-19:
1. Have Virtual Dates First. Try and take your time getting to know someone virtually before eventually meeting up and going on an in-person date. An easy way to do this is through video dating by using Zoom, Skype of Facetime. Video dating is a safe, effective way to learn about each other and get to know one another before meeting in-person.
2. Keep In-Person Dates Outside. It’s a smart idea to keep your in-person dates outside, where the risk of COVID-19 transmission is lower. A great way to abide by this is to choose an appropriate outside activity like going for a walk, enjoying a picnic or sharing a meal at a restaurant that provides outdoor seating options. It’s important to choose a location that allows you to social distance from your date.
3. Embrace Wearing a Face Mask. Wearing a face mask is very important to helping reduce the spread of the virus and to protecting yourself and others. It’s a good idea to be upfront with your date and let them know beforehand that you plan on wearing a mask and that you’d like them to do so as well.
4. Use Safe Transportation to and from Your Date. It’s equally important to choose a date location that has a clear path to and from the location that will help you avoid crowded areas. You should also think about your means of transportation. Using a cab or a ride-share can put you at risk of being in a small, enclosed space with others that may be infected. Try to choose a location that you can walk or drive yourself to so that you have more control over your transportation environment.
