Maryland Institute College of Art and Storage Student Storage

Attending college away from home is a time of adjustment and challenge for many students. One of the biggest adjustments for students to deal with is learning to live in close quarters in a dorm room with one or more roommates. Another challenge is to fit all of your everyday “stuff” into a much smaller space with limited storage opportunities. Students learn very early in the semester to be creative in storing books, clothing, and needed accessories. Renting a self storage unit is a great solution for students needing extra space to store excess personal belongings. Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) students should consider renting a self storage unit to place additional items that they don’t have room for in their dorms.  Renting a self storage unit is a great storage solution for MICA students or faculty if they are interning or doing an artist residency away from campus. Placing items in a storage unit while away will reduce the stress of moving belongings to and from home when not on campus. Most self storage facilities offer month-to-month rentals that are perfect for a college student’s budget. Renting a self storage unit can be done quickly and easily at the four ezStorage locations near the Maryland Institute College of Art.

ezStorage has college student storage solutions to help students and faculty store the larger items that cannot fit in a dorm room or an off-campus apartment.  Storing personal belongings in a self storage unit can give students peace of mind that their belongings are safe and secure. Depending on the size of the storage unit, students can store everything from bicycles to art supplies. Storage units are also perfect for storing excess furniture, seasonal clothing, kitchen items, books, mattresses, comforters and linens.

About Maryland Institute College of Art

Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) is an art and design college in Baltimore. The school was founded in 1826 as The Maryland Institute for the Promotion of Mechanic Arts. It is one of the oldest art colleges in the United States. The name was changed to Maryland Institute: College of Art in 1959.    The campus is located in the historic Bolton Hill neighborhood of Baltimore. It was named one of the top two studio arts programs in the country by Parade. Currently, MICA has 1,850 undergraduate students and over 250 post graduate students. MICA offers 17 undergraduate art and design focused programs and 16 graduate programs including architecture, environment design, graphic design, art history and video arts. Students and faculty at MICA are major participants in Artscape, Baltimore’s free art festival.

The campus of MICA is a mixture of historic and new buildings. The heart of the campus is the Main Building, which was built in 1908 after the original campus main building burned down during the 1904 Great Baltimore Fire.  It is known for its grand staircase, stain glass skylights and classic architecture. The college bought the Mount Royal Station building, now known as the Station, which was built in 1896.  For decades, MICA was primarily a commuter college with no on-campus housing. That changed in the early 1990’s with the first on-campus housing building complex, The Commons. Since that time, two other residence halls, Meyerhott House and the Gateway have been built. The college also helps students find off campus housing via a special campus housing service.
